Molybdenum market update on August 15, 2025
This week, the domestic molybdenum market exhibited an overall positive and improving trend: on one hand, prices of most molybdenum products continued to rise; on the other hand, traders' enthusiasm for market participation significantly increased, with order volumes maintaining rapid growth. Currently, market participants are particularly focused on whether downstream demand can sustain its momentum. According to CTIA GROUP LTD Online, factors such as increased downstream demand, rising steel tender prices, and a booming international molybdenum market have all enhanced suppliers' confidence in raising prices.
According to CTIA GROUP LTD statistics, this week, molybdenum concentrate prices increased by approximately 180 yuan per ton-unit, a rise of 4.29%, ferromolybdenum prices rose by about 10,000 yuan per ton, a rise of 3.70%, molybdenum oxide prices increased by around 160 yuan per ton-unit, a rise of 3.70%, sodium molybdate prices rose by approximately 2,000 yuan per ton, a rise of 1.02%, ammonium heptamolybdate prices showed no significant change, and molybdenum powder prices increased by about 10 yuan per kilogram, a rise of 2.08%. This indicates that the price increase for molybdenum raw materials this week was greater than that for molybdenum chemical products.
According to China Iron and Steel Association (CISA) data, in the first ten days of August 2025, key statistical steel enterprises produced 20.74 million tons of crude steel, with an average daily output of 207.4 thousand tons, increased by 4.7% day-on-day; 19.14 million tons of pig iron, with an average daily output of 191.4 thousand tons, increased by 3.2% day-on-day; and 20.05 million tons of steel products, with an average daily output of 200.5 thousand tons, decreased by 4.1% day-on-day.
