The application of tungsten wire in glass thermal processing is mainly due to its high melting point, high temperature resistance and good thermal stability. Tungsten wire is mainly used as a heating element in glass thermal processing, used in melting, drawing, sealing and laboratory processing.
1. Heating Element in glass melting and molding
Tungsten has a melting point of up to 3422°C and can withstand the high temperature required for glass melting (usually 1000-1600°C). It is often used as a heating element in glass thermal processing. For example, in the melting, drawing or molding process of glass tubes, glassware or optical glass, tungsten wire is used as a resistance heating wire to provide a stable high temperature environment. And tungsten wire has high resistivity and low thermal expansion coefficient, which can maintain mechanical strength at high temperature and ensure the stability and uniformity of the heating process.
2. Wire Drawing Die Assistance in Glass Drawing Process
In the process of drawing glass fiber or fine glass tube, tungsten wire can be used as an auxiliary heating element to locally heat the glass melt to maintain its fluidity and plasticity, which is convenient for stretching and forming. The small diameter and good thermal conductivity of tungsten wire make it suitable for precise temperature control to prevent glass from breaking due to uneven temperature during the stretching process.
3. Glass Welding and Sealing
In the sealing process of glass devices (such as the manufacture of vacuum tubes, light bulbs or special glassware), tungsten wire is often used for local heating to help glass and other materials (such as metal or another piece of glass) to achieve high-temperature fusion. The high temperature tolerance and chemical inertness of tungsten wire make it stable even in oxygen-containing environments, suitable for direct or indirect contact with high-temperature glass during glass sealing.
4. Laboratory and Special Glass Processing
In laboratory or small-scale glass thermal processing, tungsten wire can be used in customized heating devices, such as providing local high temperature in glass blowing or thermoforming. Tungsten wire is easy to process into small coils or specific shapes, suitable for small equipment or precision processing needs.
